“Momma Kai (Kailey)” Update 9/26/26 Kai had 9 beautiful puppies all of whom looked like Dad. With breed mix of Golden, Border Collie and Australian Shepard their intelligence and energy level is a wonderful combination. She got to meet up with one of her puppies at the vet. The picture is attached. Kai broke her toe so we picked her up a few days early. She wore a splint for 8 weeks. Two days after the split came off she had her spay surgery. Her leg had more time to regain some muscle mass while recovering. No “awe, poor thing!” Lucky Dog Activities: First on the list was working on a list of 25 essential vocabulary terms: sit, stay, come, down, heel, off, leave it, NO…etc. Kailey learns very quickly if treats are earned. Hiding treats around the house is an excellent scent activity which tires her out faster than walks. Kailey loves her blue and white puzzle toy with movable dog bones and paws with treats are hidden under them. This activity does require adult supervision…she does get rough. A Kong stuffed with wet kibble is a great crate activity when I need a sanity break from her antics. Being very aware that extra weight shortens a dog’s life span by 2 or more years we use high value treats for rewards but cut back her daily rations proportionately. She is a beautiful, intelligent golden, and we are so lucky to have her in our lives.
