Rescue a Golden of Arizona

Adopted October 25 2025

Riley

Please help RAGofAZ rescue more dogs like us!

We’re doing fine.  Through our interaction we believe Riley was abused when young.  It’s been difficult as she has been fearful of everything, noises, movements, anything new or out of place.
She has become the typical Golden.  The first couple weeks she didn’t eat much or well.  She has become a chow hound.  Starting at about 6:30 am and 4:30 pm she will come to sit and stare at us.  If we don’t react she will approach the other and sit and stare.  After a few minutes she will begin pacing until we go to the kitchen to make her breakfast or dinner.  She won’t eat until we leave .  Then she cleans her plate and wants more.
She didn’t bark for a long time.  She finally barked when we let her out in the back yard and she wanted back in.  She has become a little territorial by letting us know when someone comes to the door.  She hides behind us and watches.
The former family wrote a letter about her telling us that she didn’t play or like toys.  She doesn’t.  They said that she wouldn’t take treats.  She does now.  If she hears a bag she thinks there’s a treat for her and comes for it.
She sleeps in our room on a rug.  We got her a bed but she is afraid of it.
She’s a real sweetheart.  She loves me and Shari is acceptable.
She has improved as her comfort level has improved.  She has been to the groomer about every other week.  It’s still strange and she’s fearful.  She is getting better in the car, getting in and out and riding.  We’ve been to our vet checking on her.  We found a growth in her ear.  We’ve scheduled an appointment for dental and removal of the growth.
That’s about it.  She seems happy and relaxed most of the time.  If we have visitors she becomes velcro-ed to me.  I’m her safe place…
