Ivy is 99% absolutely perfect. She loves everybody she loves to be petted. She loves to eat. She loves to play in the yard. She loves to walk with the horses. She loves car rides. The only thing she is not real good about is staying away from counter surfing and my biggest problem with her is she melts. I don't know what her previous owner did, but every time ivy comes up to somebody she melts into the floor I've been working with her. She understands sit but prefers to come up and melt at your feet. I have to pull her up by her collar. And give her a sit command or a hand command and then she will sit. I think her previous owner must have had small kids and she must have been absolutely adamant that this dog melts to the floor and doesn't jump on anyone. However, I don't want her to melt, so we've been working on things.
She and Bruni get along just fine. Our other melting problem is grooming time. She lays on her back and puts her feet in the air. So getting her to stand is almost impossible. I have resorted to putting a collar on her tying her to a post. Putting a leash under her back end and lifting it up. Sometimes she will pick her legs up off the ground when I'm trying to brush her hind quarters and get the dead hair out. It's kind of laughable in a way but that's the only way. She's pretty perfect anyway. Bruni I got 2 years ago and I was his fifth home. He was badly abused in Mexico and his owner before me in Kingman did a marvelous job with him and only had to give him up because his wife was terribly allergic to him.
Bruni and Ivy are total opposites. Bruni doesn't like water, doesn't like sprinklers, doesn't like retrieving. He loves car rides. Ivy will fetch anything. She carries stuffies in her mouth everywhere She loves water. When she goes out she will not leave the house without a stuffy in her mouth. Which is kind of laughable?
