We wanted to provide an update about what we are doing here at Rescue A Golden of Arizona (RAGofAZ) amid the growing concern over the COVID-19 pandemic. The health and safety of our volunteers, customers and dogs is our number one priority. For this reason, our Executive Board has decided to suspend new foster and adoption applications and will postpone all scheduled home visits until further notice.

We will continue to take in Golden Retrievers in need and will handle all intake, transports and vet visits with extra safety measures to minimize potential risk to those involved in the process. We will also temporarily revise our intake process to keep human to human contact to the bare minimum by asking for required documents to be filled out in advance, electronically as much as possible. We may also request our customers to adhere to additional safety guidelines during any human to human contact with our volunteers and will advise on a case by case basis as needed.

We are closely following the latest CDC and WHO guidelines and will continue to monitor the situation and adjust our policies as needed to ensure we are still able to save Goldens in need while keeping our humans safe. We are committed to rescuing Goldens and will leverage the existing database of approved families to place the dogs who come into our rescue until we are able to resume normal operations.

We have also suspended our attendance at all public events which coincides with most events being canceled anyway.

We know there have been some questions about whether or not a pet can transmit COVID-19 to humans. The information available as of today from infectious disease experts and multiple domestic and international human and animal health organizations agree there is no evidence at this point to indicate that pets can spread COVID-19 to other animals, including people. Here is an article you can refer to for more information and recommendations to keep you and your pets safe and healthy: https://www.avma.org/resources-tools/animal-health-and-welfare/covid-19.

As always, we appreciate your continued support and look forward to getting back to normal as soon as possible. In the meantime, we hope you and your loved ones stay safe and healthy during this extraordinary time.

Be Safe,

Heather Marcom
President, Rescue A Golden of Arizona
